Day 3 - Depart Warsaw for Ryn

We left Warsaw at 8 AM heading to the small village of Ryn located in the northeast corner of Poland in its lakes region. Dense forests cover much of the land...hundreds of lakes offer recreational opportunities. Our bus is quite spacious....seating capacity is 32 passengers.... there are only 20 individuals in our tour group plus our guide so we have plenty of room to spread out.

We stopped for lunch at the small village of Piecki. In order to work up an appetite, our first order of business was to take a boat ride on a narrow pristine river bordered by foliage, flowers and nature’s splendor.....ducks and swans crossed our path as our guide poled the boat up river for about 1/2 hour before we floated back to our starting point with the help of the current. What an enjoyable respite from walking...my lunch was crepes covered with mushrooms, delicious.

We arrived at Ryn around 4 PM. Our accommodations were at the Zanek Ryn, a castle that has been converted into a lovely hotel. The hotel was able to flourish in this rural setting because it also provided conference facilities; a banquet size dining room, a fine restaurant /kitchen and a roman style indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. I availed myself of the pool and sauna before dinner and heading to bed.

Tomorrow we visit Hitler’s “Wolf’s Lair” and the Swieta Lipka Shrine to hear a organ concert.
